Stompin' Out Hunger 5k run/walk 2011
September 1, 2011 - Sleepy Eye, Minnesota - On September 1, 2011, SouthPoint Federal Credit Union sponsored a Stompin' Out Hunger 5K run/walk at Allison Park in Sleepy Eye. SouthPoint has been raising funds over the summer months to benefit Kids Against Hunger in New Ulm.
Heat and humidity didn't stop the race from starting at 6:30 pm with approx. 125 participates including avid runners, walkers and families. The 3.1 miles around the Sleepy Eye Bike trail, took them on a scenic route into the country and back into town finishing up by Sleepy Eye Lake. First place for the men's with a time of 18:20 was Duane Oftendahl of New Ulm and second place for the men's with a time of 21:26 was Tom Hillesheim. For the women Jill M Berdan of New Ulm came in first with a time of 27:30. In second place for the women's was Diane Franta with a time of 27:50. The event wrapped up at approx.7:45 with all participants crossing the finish line. Event coordinator, Angie Pidde, stated "We couldn't be more pleased with our first 5k Run/Walk. Our ultimate goal was to raise awareness for Kids Against Hunger and raise money to help the cause. We had excellent support from our members and various businesses in the area."
SouthPoint Federal Credit Union is celebrating their 75th anniversary and in conjunction with a Member Appreciation event to be held on September 22nd, 2011 will be a packing event for Kids Against Hunger
